Lauryn Hill released from jail

Hill left the facility in Connecticut on Friday, and her attorney Nathan Hochman says he hasn't had a chance to speak to his client yet.

Hill pleaded guilty last year to not paying taxes on more than $US1.5 million ($A1.6 million) earned from 2005 to 2007.

She was sentenced in July to serve three months' jail time.

Under terms of her plea agreement, she'll spend the next three months under home confinement in New Jersey.

Hill, a former member of the Fugees and winner of multiple Grammys, has said she stopped paying taxes after she dropped out of the music business to protect herself and her children, who now number six.

Man sets himself on fire at Washington's National Mall

Washington (AFP) - A man set himself on fire near the US Congress on Friday, police said, one day after a woman was shot dead by law enforcement after a high-speed chase nearby.

"It does appear that a man sustained self-inflicted burns," Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said.

"The investigation is still unfolding."

The incident followed dramatic scenes on the streets of the American capital on Thursday, when a 34-year-old woman led police on a high-speed car chase before being shot dead.

A 30-year old first class graduate of Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Moses Murtala Aminu, has been shot dead by a policeman.

The victim had left his 67, Ahmadu Ahijo Street, Narayi-Highcost family residence last week Sunday full of life for a party at Barnawa , Kaduna, but could not return home as he was killed by a police constable.

Men who stole Pasuma’s SUV have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)

Luck ran against three members of a robbery gang suspected to have robbed Wasiu Alabi Pasuma of his Range Rover SUV  as the have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos.

It was reported In May 2013, that the Fuji Star was attacked by armed robbers who made away with his SUV at Amadiyah area of Egbeda. They also robbed him of an unspecified amount of money.

The story of how Pele conquered the footballing world aged just 17 is coming to Hollywood with filming under way in Rio de Janeiro, Seine Pictures said Thursday.

The film, entitled simply, "Pele", "tells the wonderful story of the rise to glory of the legendary player," said the US company, which is producing the work with Imagine Entertainment.
