Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has stated that he is not seeking conflict or trouble. His comments come in response to reports of an assault towards officials of the Ota Zonal Planning office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at his bar in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State.
Portable alleged that the state officials were targeting him because of his support for Senator Solomon Adeola, aka Yayi. In a series of videos shared on his Instagram page, he expressed his frustration, “It is because of Yayi cloth that I wore you guys are angry and want to set me up. I’m not fighting with anyone and I don’t have problem. The only problem I have is problem to make money. The house I built and my bar; they just came and sent everyone out when I was sleeping. They picked up a lot of young workers that I am looking after. They said they want to send me out of my house and they cannot do that without a settlement. They sealed my house and bar without paper evidence.”
Portable further called for the release of several of his employees who were arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, for allegedly assaulting the zonal planning officials. He highlighted that these workers, aged between 19 and 27, were simply caught up in the chaos. “My bar was scattered, workers injured and customers beaten when they raided the bar,” he lamented, challenging officials to provide evidence of any assault by him or his team.
Recall that earlier, the Ogun State Government condemned Portable’s actions towards the town planning officials. A statement issued by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, described Portable’s behavior as “unacceptable and barbaric.” The statement further emphasised that such misconduct would be addressed according to the law.
“We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of the hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, on Wednesday, in Iyana- Ilogbo area of the state where his bar is located.
“The way Portable and some set of miscreants he employed in the dastardly act attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but a confirmation of erosion of Omoluabi ethos in those individuals and indeed a great disgrace to the state. Governor Dapo Abiodun totally condemned this primitive and indecent act and reiterated his avowed commitment to just and egalitarian society as he is ready to make any individual flouting the extant law of the land to face the full wrath of the law irrespective of social status and influence.”
Meanwhile, Portable’s mood appears to have soured; his latest Instagram story simply read ‘sad’ accompanied by a crying emoji.
