The Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone might debut sooner than expected.

According to Korean site Naver, which is run by former Samsung employees, the company is gearing up to launch its next-generation Galaxy device in January as a part of an effort to kickstart slowing sales of its current model.
The report indicates the Samsung Galaxy S5 could launch less than a year after its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, which was introduced in March.

The S5 may be revealed at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, according to the report.

Navel said the device will feature a 16-megapixel camera, a Samsung Exynos processor (not one from Qualcomm) and possibly an eight-core chip.

The Samsung S4 smartphone sold a record 10 million units less than a month after it went on sale, but hit a sales slump in the following months.
