Teen's Throat Slashed At Party

Street party killing

Police were last night questioning a man over the death of a teenager whose throat was slashed outside a house party in a Perth suburb early yesterday.

Callum Pinner, 19, was one of about 60 guests at a house in Grand Promenade, Doubleview on Saturday night.
He died after becoming involved in an altercation with two men who were not invited to the party.
The two men, strangers to the younger partygoers, had been seen loitering outside the house during the evening. They were described as being in their 30s and Caucasian.
Neighbours said the party had been orderly for most of the night but the atmosphere changed shortly before 1.30am when shouting was heard in the street.
Police were called when more than 20 people spilt out of the house on to the street.
Over the next few minutes, more calls were made when a fight broke out and Mr Pinner was stabbed.
It is believed Mr Pinner was leaving the party with a friend when he became involved in the confrontation with one of the uninvited men.

The fight appeared to escalate in the driveway opposite the house, with forensic police marking at least a dozen points of interest yesterday.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said she heard men "thumping each other" before the fighting was momentarily silenced by a "bloodcurdling scream".

"I could hear them laying into each other and there was lots of yelling," she said.

The altercation ended about 50m from the party house on the corner of Moorland Street and Grand Promenade.

_The West Australian _ understands one of the gatecrashers used a machete to slash Mr Pinner's neck before fleeing the scene.

Grand Promenade residents said they heard loud footsteps travelling up the street towards Sackville Terrace after the commotion.

Mr Pinner's friends tried desperately to save him but his wounds were too severe.

Police and paramedics arrived shortly afterwards to find him dead. Major crime detectives and forensic officers spent the day searching the scene for clues.

Items were seized for forensic examination but police would not comment if any of the items was the suspected murder weapon.

Detectives interviewed at least 20 party goers yesterday morning, many visibly distressed and in tears when they were allowed to leave the scene.
