After a failed bid to send his wife, Clara, back to her family Sunday night, following the controversies surrounding her alleged confinement at the Government House, Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime finally allowed her to depart for her mother’s home in the early hours of Monday.
Confirming her reunion with her family, Mrs. Chime’s lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) informed THISDAY that the governor and his wife had agreed that she should spend some time with her mother who also resides in Enugu, the state capital.

“It was done by consent. Mrs. Chime, with the assistance of the security operatives, was driven to her mother’s house this morning (yesterday). She was not forcibly removed from the Government House,” Falana said.

The governor, with the assistance of security operatives attached to Government House had packed Mrs. Chime's personal effects on Sunday evening and sent her to her mother's residence at House 67 Coal City Garden Estate behind, CBN headquarters in Enugu.

However, on getting there, the mother who had not been notified that her daughter was being brought home, was not at home which forced Mrs. Chime and the security operatives to sit in their cars waiting for her mother to return.

After waiting for close to two hours, the governor had ordered that Mrs. Chime be brought back to the Government House.

However, as early as 8 am yesterday, Mrs. Chime was again driven to the estate and reunited with her mother who was said to have wept profusely on sighting her daughter.

Prior to the reunion, Mother and daughter had not seen each other for five months.
When THISDAY went to the estate, the entire surroundings were calm and about six tinted cars, including one with Enugu Government House plate number, were parked there.

A young man who claimed to be living in the boy's quarter attached the building confirmed that the governor's wife was actually brought back to the house in the morning.

“Since morning, they have been having series of meetings. Just a while ago, the governor's wife left the house; she is expected back soon. You can wait if you wish but I will advise that you call her on the phone,” the fair-complexioned young man who refused to divulge his name said.

When called to the governor's wife, she declined to speak on the issue.
