Disaster has hit the Nigerian community in the state of Maryland, USA on Tuesday morning as two twin toddlers and their grandparents are dead after an overnight house fire, Per Second News gathered.
Prince George's County firefighters were called to Knollbrook Drive just after 2 a.m. for a report of a fire.
Fire officials are identifying a Prince George's County couple and their twin grandchildren who were killed in a house fire. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; the other two people were uninjured.
With ladders and hoses freezing in the bitter cold, the firefighters fought their way into the burning building and found the 2-year-old twins, identified as Anna and Israel Omijie, nearly immediately.
Brady said a total of seven people were inside the home when the fire started.
The grandparents were pronounced dead at the scene; the twins were taken in critical condition to a hospital where they died, Bashoor said. Two other people escaped the home safely.
Bashoor said that the cause of the fire at the rented home was not believed to be suspicious, but added that investigations are still ongoing.
Brady also said firefighters were "searching for evidence of a smoke alarm". Damage is estimated at $250,000.
Fire officials and county police are on the scene investigating.
Firefighters plan to return to the neighborhood Tuesday afternoon to knock on doors and check smoke alarms, he said. It also comes one year after four children and their grandparents died in a fire at a mansion in Annapolis.
